Biographical history

In 1899 the British Columbia government established a Supreme Court registry, named the “Atlin Lake Registry,” by Order-in-Council # 0367-1899, effective June 15, 1899, “for that portion of the County of Vancouver contained within the boundaries of the Atlin Lake and Bennett Lake Mining Divisions.” Notice for establishment of the registry was given by the Provincial Secretary’s office June 8, 1899.

Archivist’s note: The date of the change of the registry name has not yet been determined by research. However, by 1907 the term “Atlin” is used rather than “Atlin Lake” for the court registry name.

With changes in judicial districts and district names, Atlin was later in the County of Prince Rupert.
