Biographical history

The family consisted of Paul Billwiller and Mona (Olsen) Billwiller. Paul worked at Britannia mines as a student in the summers, 1937-39. Following his graduation from the Colorado School of Mines, he worked at Britannia mines as a mining engineer until 1958. After 1958, he worked for the Empire Development Co. mine near Port McNeil, on the CNR tunnel under Burnaby, and for B.C. Hydro on loan to Chile and at various dam sites including Mica, Revelstoke and Hudson Hope.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of records of the Billwiller family, including textual records, photographs and films. The records include: autograph books belonging to Mona (Olsen) Billwiller, 1927-1938; a notebook "compliments of Britannia Stores, Britannia Beach, B.C.", which contains no entries but includes printed information on the company and residents; a notebook kept by Mona (Olsen) Billwiller 1945-6 which includes diary entries for the time her son John was born; program etc. of the Britannia Mine High School Reunion, 1982. There are also photographs (including two albums) created or collected by Mona (Olsen) Billwiller and Paul Werner Billwiller documenting Britannia Beach, Townsite (including views from above), mine, staff, social and school activities, office buildings, houses, slide at Jane Camp; Empire Mine, Port McNeil, June-July 1958, 1964-65 (all photographs identified by P.W. Billwiller); Osoyoos Mines, ca. 1934 (album).
In addition, there are five family films.
