History

The British Columbia Energy Commission was established in 1973 by the Energy Act (SBC 1973, c. 29). The mandate of the British Columbia Energy Commission was to regulate privately owned utilities in the Province, excluding B.C. Hydro and city or municipally owned systems. It also monitored the price of oil and oil by-products and made studies and prepared reports for the Minister of Energy, Transport and Communications on all matters pertaining to energy. The British Columbia Energy Commission was disestablished in 1980 when the Energy Act was repealed.
