History

Established by law in 1893 ("An Act to provide for the establishment and maintenance of a Provincial Home for the Aged and Infirm"). The home opened in September of 1895. The facility, variously known as “Old Men's Home," “Old Man's Home,” and the Provincial Home for the Aged and Infirm (Kamloops), was for men only. It was administered by the Provincial Secretary until 1946, when it was transferred to the Department of Social Welfare. In 1975 the Provincial Home was closed.
