Lived in Ottawa. Heard that a draftsman was needed at the Dominion Lighthouse Deport at Prescott. After four years, moved to the Department of Railways and Canals. Wrote plan for reorganization of Technical Services; won competition, but was dismissed from civil service; labelled as "subversive". Politics and the election of 1911; how he got a job writing columns and humorous articles about reciprocity. Beginnings of his writing career. Kootenay canal

The item is a composite print of a documentary made between 1972 and 1975. It is a look at the construction of a unique power project -- a canal to harness the flood waters of the Kootenay River. The film highlights the environmental aspects of this engineering achievement, which harnesses needed energy from the river while protecting the environment of beaver, fish and deer.
