Scope and content

SUMMARY: The story of the first pipe organ in British Columbia -- an ancient Seeley organ, whose original parts were brought around the Horn to the colony of Vancouver Island in 1861. The program also includes; a young English organ-builder's impressions of early Victoria. From 1912 to 1953, the instrument was housed at St. Mark's Anglican Church in Saanich. The organ's story is dramatized by actors, and Win Renworth performs appropriate music on the organ, which was built by her great-grandfather, William Seeley. The program was first broadcast in September 1953.
