Custodial history

These films were donated by Lawrence James Wallace, the former Deputy Provincial Secretary, on 1984-03-26.

Scope and content

The series consists of motion picture film prints accumulated by L.J. (Lawrie) Wallace during his tenure as Deputy Provincial Secretary (1959-1977). Wallace was responsible for organizing British Columbia's celebrations in to mark the 1958, 1966, and 1971 centennials, as well as the B.C. component of the 1967 Canadian cetennial celebrations. Most of the these film document the celebrations of these various centennials and associated special events. The series includes several films produced by or for the Government of British Columbia, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and the National Film Board of Canada, as well as individual fitles by various other production companies. Non-centennial-related titles include the travelogues "Beautiful British Columbia" (BC Government Travel Bureau, 1952), "Highway North" (Royalite Oil Company, 1957?), and "A Day of Fun in the Historical Town of Barkerville" (Werner Aellen for the Barkerville Restoration Advisory Committee, ca. 1963).
