Biographical history

The Emergency Health Services Commission (EHSC) was created by legislation in 1974 to provide a provincial ambulance service. In addition, the Commission was responsible for the medical aspects of disaster planning for the province.

Custodial history

In 1983 consolidation of information services transferred budgets and records to the newly created branch Government Information Services. These records were transferred to the BC Archives in 1988 from Government Information Services.

Scope and content

The series consists of slide shows created by the Emergency Health Services Commission between 1978 and 1980. The slide shows cover a variety of training exercises of the E.H.S. including: training sequences, rescue training over rough terrain and disaster planning exercises at Campbell River and Victoria International airport.. The series also includes slides of the aftermath of a real disaster; the 1978 Cranbrook air crash of PWA flight 314. This slide show is accompanied by a slide script and an audio cassette tape.
