Biographical history
Francis John Barrow emigrated to Canada at the turn of the century and looked for land in the Kootenays. He lived in the Gulf Islands until he finally settled in Sidney, B.C. He and his wife spent many summers cruising the West Coast.
Custodial history
The films were originally held by the Provincial Museum, which transferred them to the BC Archives in August 1983, along with many other films held by the Museum. The diaries and photographs were loaned to the BC Archives for copying in 1980 by May John, a long-time friend of the Barrows.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of diaries, a log of his yacht's activities, diaries of summer cruises and photographs, as well as films documenting the summer cruises and other vacation trips, 1938-1941.
