- Variations in title: The title, Cha atl, Q.C.I., was used as early as 1961. The addition of "Haida Totems" to the title was in place, see exhibition catalogue for the Newcombe Collection, 1962. Q.C.I. short for Queen Charlotte Islands, now known as Haida Gwaii.
- Statements of responsibility: Dated 1912 and signed M. Emily Carr on lower left
- Source of title proper: based on subject matter; preferred titled revised in consultation with the Haida Gwaii Museum in 2020.
