Jack B. Scott fonds

Fonds consists of photographic prints, negatives and textual material created or received by Jack B. Scott with predominant date range from 1923 to 1960.

The photographs primarily depict logging and whaling, settlements, landscapes and wildlife of northern coastal BC, Queen Charlotte Islands and Skeena River areas. Textual records include press clippings pertaining to area wildlife, the Monongahela vessel and Chief Mungo Martin's lying in state at Thunderbird Park in addition to a memo of photographs conveyance to the Provincial Museum and to the Maritime Museum.

J.F. Prowse fonds

The fonds consists of photographic extracts from a log kept by Midshipman James Ferris Prowse whilst aboard the H.M.S. Thetis under Captain Augustus L. Kuper. There are 90 negatives (2 negatives per page) and 42 print copies.

The printed extracts are those which have any mention of any place or point near Vancouver Island or Queen Charlotte's Island (Haida Gwaii), or of any item which might be of interest. These items are marked in red pen on the right hard edge of the photographic prints. The period covered is from the arrival of the ship outside the straits of San Juan de Fuca on May 22, 1852 to the time it sailed from Esquimalt Harbour for England on January 22, 1853.

John Work fonds

The fonds consists of 15 journals, one notebook, and correspondence written by John Work. The notebook was written in 1834, and the journals extend from 1823-1835 when Work was traveling as a trader for the Hudson's Bay Company in the western US and western Canada area. These journals are arranged by date. There is an inventory of the journals and an original note by Work written in 1831.
The fonds also contains a 1945 transcription of Work's 13 May - 26 May, 1851 journal which was written while Work was looking for gold in the Queen Charlotte Islands.

Robert William Torrens fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence and reports written by and about Robert William Torrens between 1858 and 1865. In 1859 and 1865, Torrens took part in several different expeditions that took him to Haida Gwaii, along the Nass River, through the area of Clayoquot Sound, and to Bear River. During these trips, he interacted with many local Indigenous populations, and wrote about these encounters in his reports. The fonds also includes several letters of recommendation for Torrens and his 1865 oath of office for the position of stipendiary magistrate for the colony of Vancouver Island.
