SUPPLIED TITLE OF TAPE(S): Margaret Siwallace recalls life in Kimsquit and Bella Coola areas (1908-1937) RECORDED: [location unknown], 1966-08-18 SUMMARY: TRACK 1: Margaret Siwallace recalls Kimsquit village including its houses, dances and potlatches (1908-18). Then she discusses Japanese fishermen, canneries, B.C. Packers, fishing sockeye, and the Port Simpson School (1916-17). TRACK 2: Margaret Siwallace continues by describing how she left the school in 1918, the 1919 flu epidemic in Bella Coola, how the village moved to Bella Coola in the 1920;s, floods, how the village moved again in 1936 because of floods, Anahim Indians, a story of a great flood, missionaries influence on Indians, a story of a woman who foresaw the coming of white man, ";Cumshewa" means white man, and a story of how Alexander MacKenzie was given a white robe because he was a "White Chief".
