History

Mission School District was established in 1872 as a common school district comprised of one school. Prior to that, Mission School was opened in 1885 as St. Mary’s Mission School. In 1901, the district was classified as a graded school district. In 1906, Mission School District was designated as a rural municipality school district comprised of four schools, including Mission School. More schools were added in 1911. In 1946 nearly all of the existing school districts in the province were consolidated into seventy-four (74) large administrative units and the new school districts were assigned numbers. Mission School District was disestablished at that time when it was included in School District No. 34 (Abbotsford-Mission). A year later the district was split and a new district was added, School District No. 75 (Mission).
