The artist Anna Gertrude Lawson Cheney (1897-1985) known as Nan along with Humphrey Toms (1913-1983) were friends of Emily Carr. The letters written between these friends were published in Dear Nan. Letters of Emily Carr, Nan Cheney and Humphrey Toms edited by Doreen Walker, 1990.
