History

The O’Keefe Ranch is located near Vernon and was established in 1867 by Cornelius O’Keefe. It was the first ranch in the North Okanagan to open a general store on the property. O’Keefe petitioned the Canadian government for a post office following British Columbia’s accession into Confederation in 1871. By August 1872, a post office was established on the ranch which led to the running of a weekly stagecoach from Cache Creek to the ranch.
