- Continuation of title: ...hundreds of dollars, and a dozen or two of guns were given away by various Indians of the Songeeth Tribe to their visitors from the West Coast of Vancouver Island on the occasion of a young chief coming to the Songeeth rancherie to deman[d] [sic] the daughter of the Chief of that tribe in marriage, which was soon arranged to the satisfaction of all and he took her away the next day in his own canoe, accompanied by all those that came with him in their canoes, with as much pomp and ceremony as circumstances would allow. All the money and valuables accumulated during several years by their own industry principally by pedling [sic] fish, potatoes, birds, grouse, mushrooms, clams, mussels etc. etc. is given away from the top of their lodges until they. ...[caption cut off through trimming of the mount].........by the writer of this.
