The item is a composite print of a travelogue from 1969. It shows the summer and winter activities in the Columbia Valley of the East Kootenay region. A sequence on the area's history is followed by shots of various approaches to the Valley, and footage of Fernie, ranching, wildlife, skiing, the Kimberley Snow Fiesta, snowmobiling, fishing (ice & stream), the Kootenay Trout Hatchery, Wasa Lake, a modern paddlewheeler, water skiing, the restored pioneer community of Fort Steele, mountain climbing in the Bugaboos, trail riding, provincial campsites, Radium Hot Springs and Fairmont.

Mine site, high on mountainside; buildings; small electric train of ore cars; dumping tailings on hillside; dumping ore into aerial tramway; tramway buckets descending very steep hillside to concentrator, and emptying into hopper there. B&W: interior shots (some dark): ore on conveyor belt; refining processes [cyanidation and flotation]; etc. COLOUR: bridge across river for ore cars. B&W: interior of assay office; staff with instruments, performing tests, etc. COLOUR: May Day celebrations: baseball game; rock-drilling contest; presentation of prizes; May Queen pageant and crowning; children maypole dancing. Extensive footage of the Sayward Forest, primarily showing outdoor recreation activities -- boating (power, sail and canoe), camping, sport fishing, picnicking, swimming, sunbathing, water skiing, etc. -- on the lakes, streams and rivers of the area. Also includes sequences on the Elk Falls and Menzie lookout towers; forest inventory crews at work near Frog Lake and Elk Falls; Campbell River Forest Nursery; a tugboat pulling a log barge in Johnstone Strait; Campbell River Ranger Station; Elk Falls Park; neat and messy camp sites.
