The majority of the applications relate to properties on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands though some of the properties are also located on the Stikine River.

He discusses people (such as John Pelling) and incidents while travelling through Wrangell, Stikine River, and Telegraph Creek; mining in Atlin; various jobs; confrontation between miners and employers over Japanese workers after the government declared that foreigners had no rights to claims; and Lawrence becoming a Constable. TRACK 2: Guy Lawrence continues describing his work as a Special Constable, working on telegraph stations at Nahonahe River and Blackwater; and working at Fort George.;

[Stikine River placer mining and travel, 1930s -- parts 1 to 4]

Amateur film. Mainly shows trip(s) up the Stikine by riverboat and placer mining activity on the river. Includes: waterfront view of Wrangell, Alaska; views of and from riverboat "Hazel B No. 2" going upriver; the Three Sisters (islands in the river); riverboat at Telegraph Creek and barge at Dease Lake, and local activity; forest fire & fire-fighting; shots of a Fokker F-11AHB flying boat designated CF-AUV (at dock and taking off) and a Fairchild floatplane; aerial shots in the vicinity; wreckage of aircraft CF-AUV (which crashed at McDame Lake, 13 July1935); general scenery and wildlife. The placer mining footage, which is interspersed, includes shots of a small mining camp, sluice works, panning, hydraulic monitor operation, jerry-built mining equipment in use, etc.

Thomson RECORDED: Hopkins Landing (B.C.), 1974-07-30 & -08-01, etc. SUMMARY: In a series of interviews recorded by his grandson, Eric R. Thomson of Hopkins Landing discusses: a 1902 trip up the Skeena with his father, James Thomson, of the Hudson's Bay Company; a 1911 trip up the Stikine; and his recollections of growing up in Victoria, 1896-1904.

Films

The series consists of films and footage that depict Tommy and Marion Walker's guiding-outfitting operation at Cold Fish Lake, and the flora, fauna and scenery of the surrounding Spatsizi Plateau. This material documents the operating seasons of 1957 to 1968; events and activities at Cold Fish Lake Camp; the TW Ranch at Hyland Post; packtrains; hunting and fishing trips; the local wildlife; the Walker's annual journeys in and out of the region by horse, floatplane, and automobile; and their winter home at Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. Early films were made by Walker as publicity for his guide outfitting business and later films were made to show around the Province in his (eventually successful) attempts to have the Spatzizi designated a park.

He recalls the "Old and New Caledonia",; adventures on the "Caledonia", hunting on Finlayson Island, incidents with pack dogs, freight, crew and passengers on the "Caledonia", "Boston Bill" and his deck hand work (1898). TRACK 2: Captain Gardner continues speaking about his work aboard the "Caledonia", "lining", Kitselas Canyon -- hazards and navigation, the Skeena and Stikine Rivers, impressions of Hazelton (1894), Yukon gold and it's; impact: swindlers and mental illness, "drifting" downstream on the Skeena, wreck of the "Mount Royal", the 30 Mile River in the Yukon, river incidents and memories of Captain Bonser.

TRACK 2: Hugh McLean tells anecdotes to a group of children: the cattle and salt in 1931, Indian women and the plank bridge, a small boy and his grandmother, the sage hen -- 1894, the bear story, a story about an trapper at Takla Lake -- Daniel Teegee, the wreck of the "Distributor" and a story about stopping there on a mail run.

TRACK 2: Hugh McLean continues with stories told to a group of children, "Old Fort Isaac", the bear cub story, the bank robbery at Hazelton (1913) and tall tales: a trapper at Loon Lake, a tabby cat and a Joe Hanson tale. Georgiana Ball films

The item consists of 20 camera original, unedited films created by Georgiana Ball between about 1957 and 1970. Original films 1-11 and 12-20 were combined onto 2 film reels by the BC Archives upon acquisition.

The film are "home movies", primarily of ranching activities in the Stikine and Liard regions, particularly showing the communities of Telegraph Creek and Trutch. Other locations include Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, Ocean Falls, Dawson Creek, Dease Lake, Stikine River, Mount Edziza and Banff, Alberta. Activities shown include Ball family Diamond B Ranch game guiding operations, ranching, haying, packing and various types of transportation including horseback, pack horses, river boats (incl. Judith Ann), cargo ships (incl. Northland Prince, Skeena Prince), bush planes (North Coast Airways) and helicopters.
