Forbidden Plateau : Harlan I. Smith footage

The item is a reel of unedited footage. "The opening scenes are interesting and show an old bus marked 'Courtenay' pulling into the town of Courtenay on Vancouver Island and a CPR train, pulled by locomotive #461, arriving at the railway station. Out at sea a ferry hoves into view. In the ocean, some kind of animals are sporting about in the waves -- seals perhaps, or sea otters. Two boys playing with a fawn. The remainder of the footage shows trail-riders at an assembly point milling about and having their goods packed by an old guide, then setting off into the Forbidden Plateau. There are several shots of the camps made by the riders and many scenic views of riders, mountains, lakes, flowers, etc. It appears that occasionally the riders are hunting for something on the ground; perhaps some of them are collecting plant specimens." (Colin Browne)
