General note

Re: custodial history.
J.D. Salinger may be a misprint. Jehanne Bietry Salinger, French-born US writer and art critic worked briefly in Toronto but mainly in San Francisco. She wrote a favourable review of Carr's work in connection with the 1930 AECA exhibition in "Comment on Art", Canadian Forum, 10 (March 1930): 209-211. It may have been she who owned this work.

Signatures note

Signed M.E. Carr lower right front.
