History

The Water Investigations Branch was established on April 1, 1962. The majority of the functions at this time were transferred from the Hydraulic Investigations Division. Its main responsibility was to deal with technical matters pertaining to the water resources which are not directly connected to the administration of the Water Act. Its main functions were to carry out water resources surveys. These include fathering hydrometeorological data to guide future use of water resources and carrying out engineering investigations relating to irrigation, water supply, water power, erosion, flooding and other matters.
