Scope and content

Photograph depicts the departure of the 88th Battalion (Victoria Fusiliers) on the SS Princess Charlotte. This CPR ship connected Victoria's harbour to the Canadian Pacific Railway station in Vancouver. Large crowds can be seen on the docks surrounding the ship, with some people climbing the barrier for a better view of the soldiers as they board the ship. Meanwhile, on board the troops crowd the decks and even climb the ship's rigging for a better view of the people below.
