This painting was apparently in three pieces when collected by Newcombe. Two notes written by Flora Hamilton Burns who created the original inventory of the Newcombe Carr material, help explain its condition. In the inventory she noted: "Emily Carr had later cut this canvas into three pieces." in the wooden frame created for the Newcombe Collection exhibition of 1962. In the catalogue she elaborated: "Cut by the artist to fit into vertical and horizontal wall pieces."

Immediate source of acquisition

Purchased by the Government of British Columbia from the estate of W.A. Newcombe, 1961.
