Biographical history

In 2005 the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands was renamed from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries when it was transferred the responsibility for Land and Water British Columbia Inc. and Land Information BC (OIC 450/2005). The mandate of the ministry was to promote economic development and environmental sustainability for the agricultural, aquaculture and food sectors. The ministry is responsible for managing Crown land, allocating Crown land, setting policy for managing the resources, and working with other stakeholders.

In 2010, the Ministry was renamed the Ministry of Agriculture. At this time, many Land functions were transferred to the Ministry of Forests, Mines and Lands, and the newly created Ministry of Natural Resource Operations (OIC 652/2010). The Ministry of Agriculture also gained the following functions: policy advice related to range resource management from the Minister of Forests and Range, and marine fisheries and seafood industry development from the Ministry of Environment.

In 2000, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food was renamed the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries when the functions of the disestablished Ministry of Fisheries were returned to it (OIC 241/2000). In 2005 the ministry was renamed the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands when it was transferred Crown land functions, including the responsibility for Land and Water British Columbia Inc. and Land Information BC a (OIC 450/2005).

In 1998 functions related to fisheries were transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to the newly established Ministry of Fisheries, resulting in the ministry being renamed the Ministry of Agriculture and food (OIC 177/1998).

In 2000 the fishery functions were returned from the disestablished Ministry of Fisheries and the ministry was renamed once again to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries (OIC 241/2000).

The series contains the records from various committees, commissions and other groups collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands and its predecessors. These records include correspondence, reports, notices, memos, and draft changes to legislation and regulations. The series also contains a small number of discussions, drafts, correspondence and other records related to agreements between the Provincial Ministry and its Federal counterpart, inter-ministry agreements, agreements with other bodies.
