Seven league boots

The item consists of a public relations film on the development of the Okanagan Helicopters Group. The release print contains BC footage includes Carl Agar flying an early helicopter; use of helicopters for aerial survey of Kildala Pass transmission line route (Kitimat project) and flying supplies to stations along the route; delivering supplies to geological surveys and drilling sites in the Rockies; topographical survey work; survey and monitoring of the Trans Mountain pipeline; re-seeding forests from the air; headquarters and hangers at Vancouver airport.

Footage. Shows various supply and construction activities associated with the project of tunneling under Seymour Narrows and placing dynamite under Ripple Rock. Includes shots of coastal features near the site, a freighter in Seymour Narrows, Painter's Lodge (Campbell River), construction of wooden frame buildings, and a sequence showing a turkey dinner being served to a work crew. No shots of the actual explosion are included. One sequence shows the freightboat "Cloverleaf IV" being loaded and en route (possibly to Ahousat, on the west coast of Vancouver Island). Unrelated material (in two segments) shows a De Havilland Comet Mk. 3 airliner with BOAC markings (registration G-ANLO) landing, taxiing, and disembarking passengers at Vancouver Airport.

Ripple Rock

Industrial film. The destruction of Ripple Rock, a long-time menace to shipping in Seymour Narrows, by the world's largest non-nuclear explosion. Footage includes animated diagrams of the project; preparatory tests with models; underwater tunnelling and drilling operations; the shipment and placing of explosives; aerial and general views of the Narrows, and the various technical preparations for the explosion, as well as the blast and its results.

Of mines and men

Industrial film. A comprehensive look at mining in B.C., made to attract employees to the industry. Shows prospecting, core sampling; mine interiors, including the Sullivan mine (with electric trains); train (with steam locomotives) taking ore to smelter; smelter operations (including lead and zinc refining and production of fertilizer from smelter by-products); Bralorne mine; open-pit coal mine at Corbin; discussion of safety and health care for miners; amenities provided for the comfort of miners in mining camps, and for their families at larger camps.
