The commissioner, Judge of the County Court of Atlin, Frederick McBain Young, was appointed by statute (BCS 1917, c. 20), on 19 May 1917 to investigate the conduct of the election and all persons concerned with it. This was in response to allegations that offences had been committed under the Provincial Elections Act and amending Acts regarding the election of the member for the Fort George electoral district.
