History
In 2008, the Ministry of Health Services was established replacing the Ministry of Health (OIC 430/2008). The ministry was responsible for British Columbia’s health system. It did this by setting goals, standards, and expectations for health service delivery by health authorities and other service providers; leadership, providing direction and support to service delivery partners; directly managing provincial programs and services such as the Medical Services Plan, Pharmacare, the B.C. Vital Statistics Agency and the Emergency Health Services Commission; monitoring and evaluating the delivery of health services and the health of the population. The Ministry was renamed the Ministry of Health in 2011 (OIC 62/2011).
