History
The Nelson Forest District was created in 1913. In 1925 the Vernon, Nelson and Cranbrook Forest Districts were merged into the Southern Interior Forest District, based in Nelson. The Southern Interior Forest District was renamed the Nelson Forest District in 1930, but no changes were made to the districts boundaries.
In 1978 this area was renamed the Nelson Forest Region. It was divided into the following smaller Forest Districts, based on the previous ranger districts: Kootenay Lake, Arrow, Boundary, Revelstoke, Golden, Invermere and Cranbrook / Rocky Mountain.
