Scope and content

The file is a photograph album, compiled around 1897-1898 by gluing photographs taken by William A. Carlyle (pages 1 to 28) and W.F. Robertson (pages 29 to 51) into a volume. It contains 150 photographs showing mines, mining equipment and workers as well as mining landscapes including towns and valleys. Most of the photographs have captions and other information but the album is not indexed. Each photograph has been given a variety of alpha-numeric codes. The main number, written to the right of each photograph, starts at number 337, directly following on from the previous album. The "box number" written on a tab below each photo refers to the original box containing the related negatives.

Photographs used in Dept. of Mines annual reports are indicated with the report date and page number.
