Biographical history
The British Columbia government established a Supreme Court registry at Campbell River effective November 1, 1974. It was approved by Order-in-Council 3051-1974, dated 1974 Sept. 19. By the same order, a registry of the County Court was established at Campbell River (for the County of Nanaimo).
The government, by Order-in-Council 3606-1974, on 1974 November 7, rescinded Order-in-Council 3051-1974, disestablishing these two registries.
The government then established a Supreme Court registry for Campbell River effective April 1, 1975. It was approved by Order-in-Council 0092-1975, dated January 9, 1975.
By the same order, a registry of the County Court was established at Campbell River (for the County of Nanaimo).
Currently (to March 31, 2016) the Campbell River Registry of the Supreme Court continues as an active registry. Campbell River inherited Port Hardy Supreme Court records when that registry closed in April or May 2010.
Custodial history
Scope and content
The series consists of original civil orders and reasons for judgement created between 1982 and 2001 by the Campbell River Supreme Court registry. Civil orders are the formal expression of the ruling of the court and reasons for judgement provide the court's rationale. The records relate to a variety of civil matters, primarily motor vehicle accidents.
The records are arranged by file number and were scheduled for full retention under Court Services ORCS (schedule 100152) 51400-25.
