Biographical history

Walter Mackay Langdale Draycott was born on February 24, 1883, in England. In 1907 he emigrated to Canada on board the SS “Canada” and bought a farm near Fort William in Ontario, which he sold three years later. He moved to Vancouver in 1911 and, after a briefly co-managing a taxidermy and shoe repair shop, he settled in Lynn Valley in North Vancouver. Draycott served in World War I with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He served as a barber, topographer, and military sketcher, and fought in France and Belgium. From 1912-1975, he served as a Justice of the Peace. Draycott had a strong interest in science and history and was a collector of stamps and various specimens. He died on October 21, 1985 in North Vancouver.

Draycott spelled his name as both "Draycot" and "Draycott," the former being more common in his youth.
