SUPPLIED TITLE OF TAPE(S): Captain Beketov RECORDED: [location unknown], [196-] SUMMARY: TRACK 1: Captain Beketov describes the ship "Thermopylae" which was one of the Clipper ships built for the China tea trade and the only one based out of Victoria, how the trade came to an end with the opening of the Suez Canal in 1870, how the "Thermopylae" was used in the Australian trade before being bought by Montreal businessman Robert Redford, how it was then used to bring rice to Victoria from Burma, why the ship was not economical to run, the history of and anecdotes about the ship's skippers, a description of the vessel, what remains of the ship, more stories about the "Thermopylae", and meetings about the Thermopylae Club.
