History

Anna Gertrude (Nan) Lawson was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia on June 22, 1897, the daughter of John William Lawson and Alice Helme Wilson. She married Dr. Hill Harrison Cheney in 1924 and they moved to Vancouver in 1937. She was a well-known portrait artist and was friends with Emily Carr. From 1951 to 1962 she worked as a medical artist at the University of British Columbia.

She died in Vancouver on November 3, 1985.
