Administrative history

A society called Archives of Vancouver was incorporated on March 6, 1948. It became a civil department in October 1957.

Custodial history

17 film titles (comprising 26 film reels) were received from the City of Vancouver Archives (CVA) in 1988. In July 2012, at the request of the CVA, the majority of this material was deaccessioned and transferred to their custody. The BC Archives/RBCM retained five films (and film or video preservation masters of two more) which were not requested by CVA, or which were considered to be of provincial significance, or which were closely related to other BC Archives holdings.

Scope and content

The collection comprises seven moving image items, including four documentaries about Vancouver or British Columbia and three actuality reels depicting Vancouver and area events.
