The item consists of a photographic print mounted on card taken by Hannah Maynard in April 1883 at her Victoria studio. The photograph shows Captain John Newby with 12 Japanese fishermen. Newby had rescued the crew on March 4, 1883 in the China Sea and brought the men to Victoria in the barque "Tiger".
