Biographical history

Established by Order-in-Council no. 454, February 7, 1977. Multiple reports between 1977 and 1979. Commissioners: Lloyd George MacKenzie (Chairman), Sydney Wallis Welsh, David Hilton Chapman. The Commission's task was to make inquiry into and concerning all aspects of the management and development of the British Columbia Railway and the participation of the Crown as shareholder. This included examining its role in the economy, possible benefits, and government policy alternatives (for example, change the company to autonomous crown corporation status or transfer it to the private sector).

Exhibits, interrogatories, general files, clippings, printed matter, indexes, guides and synopses. Use of this finding aid may be accompanied by use of the card index (BOXES 1-4) and guides and synopses (BOX 5) compiled by the staff of the Commission. The card index provides subject and name access to the exhibits and testimony in the transcripts of evidence. References will be to exhibit number or volume(s) and page number(s) in the transcripts. Special note should be taken of the series of files "Interrogatories", which were written questions submitted to B.C. Rail.
