Columbia 64-65 : out-takes

The item consists of 14 reels of colour film out-takes, made around 1964-1965. The footage includes an extensive selection of unused footage documenting aspects of construction at the Arrow, Duncan and Mica dam sites, as well as other operations and events relating to the Columbia River project; plus scenes of the Revelstoke ski tournament and parade, Mica housing development, "test lab North Vancouver," etc. There are outs from "Action on the Columbia", "Columbia '65" and other Parry-produced films on the project.

Footage of construction projects, including: unidentified site with a large electrical substation (possibly Nordel Business Park in Richmond); Cedar Shores, a waterfront rental housing development, scheduled for partial completion in Spring 1980; houses under construction (01-Aug-1979); and building the Government Street mall in 1976.

Current account

The item consists of three elements that made up a promotional film from 1959. The film is a dramatization which demonstrates how the rates charged for electricity by BC Electric have supposedly fallen over the preceding 20 years. A district representative of BC Electric visits a typical family home. There are several animated sequences, and a few unidentified shots of dam and power line construction.

[Dam construction ; Royal visit, 1939]

Amateur film. The first 70 feet shows elements of the construction of Campbell River Dam [also known as Hart Dam or Elk Falls Dam], which was built ca. 1946-1948. The balance of the reel shows Vancouver scenes from the 1939 Royal Visit. "King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in an open car. King and Queen behind a flag-bedecked wooden wall in Empire Stadium, masses of people on the field in sports gear. Crowds along the street as King and Queen pass in open car. [Close-up] Royal car. Two following cars, crowds along the route. Interior of stadium; a huge parade of boys and girls marches onto the field. White-clad athletes perform choreographed exercises. Bicycle teams perform precision riding. Guards in scarlet uniforms. Group of Army officers. Guards in scarlet march past. Scene down a decorated Vancouver street. Dorothy's dream house

The item is a promotional film on colour print, made in the mid 1950s. It shows the planning, design, construction and features of a BCE "Ease-of-Living" modern home, equipped with up-to-date electrical appliances. Footage of special interest includes a view from a car crossing Lion's Gate Bridge and views of the British Properties.

Fisheries research station activities, Nelson, BC

The item consists of two reels of documentary film. It shows fisheries research and other activities in the area of the Fisheries Research Station at Nelson. Reel one shows Duncan Dam construction, the construction of a fish fence on the Lardeau River, and the moving of a boat house from Nelson to Balfour. Reel two depicts fisheries studies on the Lardeau River and Meadow Creek, the Meadow Creek Kokanee spawning channel, and the official opening of B.C. Hydro's Duncan Dam, August 17, 1967.

Fording Coal Limited : construction footage

The item is a reel of film footage, roughly edited with tape splices. Shows construction activity in preparation for open-pit mining of the Fording Coal property, as well as the residential site at nearby Elkford.

The item consists of four reels of film out-takes, made from 1954 to 1955. They contain footage shot for a film on the importance of British Columbia's secondary industries. The activities shown in the completed film included the manufacture of tissue paper, wire rope, pipe, tin cans, plastic bags, lighting fixtures, electric signs, power saws, broom handles, galvanized pails, ceramics, clothing, drill bits, and plasterboard; food canning; sugar refining; hydro-electric power developments; electronics; television (CBC studio); motion picture production and film processing and construction.
