The series consists of pamphlets, brochures, and advertisements describing products and services offered by diverse companies in connection with Public Works construction and maintenance programmes, from between ca. 1910 and 1960.
The material was culled from the Public Works correspondence files before microfilming.

[Highway building at Salmon Arm]

Amateur film. "A rock-crushing site; asphalt is loaded into a truck. At road-building site the truck dumps the asphalt. The road is graded and rolled. MIXERS: The camera records the operation of two giant machines, fed by trucks. The trucks dump gravel from crusher into huge scoops which raise the rock, dumping it into the mixer which digests it until processed, at which time the asphalt is moved in buckets to a hopper under which sits a truck ready to receive the material. The truck, once filled, drives away and is replaced by another. There are several complete shots of this operation. Scene of work yard in wild country where crushers and other machines are operating and filling trucks. Truck dumping fill with grader waiting. Grader grading. Shovel working. Blasting a sandy bluff. Huge machine moving dirt overhead, seems to be scraping it off the road then dumping it behind. Heavy dirt movers assemble on the road and drive by. Many shots of carryalls, from many angles. Amateur film. "For the first 90 feet there are many poorly exposed scenic pans of flowing rivers, hills with snow, men walking, and one construction site. [Dam construction ; Royal visit, 1939]

Amateur film. The first 70 feet shows elements of the construction of Campbell River Dam [also known as Hart Dam or Elk Falls Dam], which was built ca. 1946-1948. The balance of the reel shows Vancouver scenes from the 1939 Royal Visit. "King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in an open car. King and Queen behind a flag-bedecked wooden wall in Empire Stadium, masses of people on the field in sports gear. Crowds along the street as King and Queen pass in open car. [Close-up] Royal car. Two following cars, crowds along the route. Interior of stadium; a huge parade of boys and girls marches onto the field. White-clad athletes perform choreographed exercises. Panorama of False Creek industry, 1943

Item consists of one panoramic photograph of the False Creek area of Vancouver. Visible industrial businesses include West Coast Shipbuilders, Hamilton Bridge Western Ltd., Columbia Machine Works, and Dominion Construction Co. Ltd. A variety of automobiles, railroad tracks, industrial materials and machinery, and people are visible. "#822-P. Aug. 20/43. W.J. Moore" has been captioned at the bottom right corner.

Bridge River

The item is a composite print of an industrial film made between ca. 1945 and 1948. It shows the first phase of the Bridge River Project including construction of the Bridge River diversion dam, Seton Lake powerhouse, penstock on Mission Mountain, and power transmission lines to Vancouver; site preparation for La Joie storage dam and opening of first phase on 23 October 1948. There is also footage of Vancouver and vicinity emphasizing demand for electrical power.

No barriers : [out-takes]

Out-takes. The geographical barriers that once hindered progress in Canada, and the surmounting of those barriers by air travel. Filmed all across Canada (including Charlottetown, Montreal, Toronto and Uranium City), with staged sequences on the Confederation conference, pioneer farming and the building of the CPR through the Rockies. According to Parry, the BC scenes are relatively "anonymous." The outs include aerial views of mountains; aircraft on tarmac and airport terminal scenes (Malton Airport, Toronto); Britannia Mines concentrator; construction & earthmoving at Bridge River and/or Kemano; herring fishing; hydro-electric installations; logging; Ottawa; Quebec City; TCA aircraft; Uranium City, Saskatchewan (airfield, town, Eldorado Mining operations); Vancouver harbour; Yellowknife.

Penstock no. 3

The item is an industrial film made around 1949. It describes the construction of penstock no. 3 at the Bridge River project and the water diversion tunnel system through Mission Mountain. See also "Generating unit no. 3".

La Joie storage dam : part 2

The item is a colour industrial film from 1950. It shows construction work on the La Joie Dam during 1950 including blasting, excavation, dam fill operation, spillways, floodgates and control valves. La Joie dam was part of the Bridge River development.

Industrial film. A progress report on the Alcan development in British Columbia. Construction of the Kenney Dam, Kemano power project, and power line to Kitimat.

Wahleach

The item is a composite print of an industrial film made in 1951-1952. It shows the construction of the 82,000-horsepower power plant at Wahleach Creek (between Chilliwack and Hope). Footage includes site clearing, tunnel work, building construction, installation of penstock and turbines and transmission line crews at work.

The item consists of two film reels of out-takes from the film Lake Buntzen power plant parts I and II. The film shows construction of BC Electric's new Lake Buntzen power plant on Indian Arm.
