Wahleach

The item is a composite print of an industrial film made in 1951-1952. It shows the construction of the 82,000-horsepower power plant at Wahleach Creek (between Chilliwack and Hope). Footage includes site clearing, tunnel work, building construction, installation of penstock and turbines and transmission line crews at work.

BC Power Commission miscellany

The item consists of film footage from ca. 1957. It contains assorted footage, including exterior and interior of a power plant, aerial views of forest, power line right-of-way, unidentified seaside town, penstocks and Seton powerhouse at Bridge River, slash burning, town, mountains, Victoria and dam construction site.

Jet fired power : the story of BC's first gas turbine generating station

The item is a release print of an industrial film from 1956-1957. It shows the construction of the Georgia Gas Turbine Generating Station on Bare Point at Chemainus. Footage includes press conference with BC Power Commission general manager Lee Briggs, construction of power plant, cantilever tanker dock and fuel tank farm by Sandwell and Company Ltd., design of turbines in New York and transport operation, arrival of tanker "Oregon Standard" with first load of fuel. There is also a sequence on Vancouver Island communities and industries regarding their demand for electricity.

Men at work

The item is a release print of an industrial film from ca. 1958. BC Power Commission employees do many jobs essential to the maintenance of electrical service. The film includes footage of snow survey work on central Vancouver Island, a logging crew clearing trees at the edge of a reservoir, work in progress on the water diversion tunnel at Ash River, transmission tower construction, a crew hanging warning markers on power lines, inspection of power lines via helicopter and Spillimacheen generating station. There are also scenes in Fort St. James and vicinity. The film is set within the framework of a simulated interview show on CHEK-TV. Director of administration Garth Griffith and public information officer Jim Bogyo talk with host Keith Cutler.

Action on the Columbia

The item is a composite print of an industrial film made around 1964. It shows the construction of the Mica, Duncan and Arrow Dams in the Columbia River basin. Some of the communities in the project area are shown and the problems and benefits are discussed. There is footage of Revelstoke and Trail-Kaslo area, flooding of the Columbia near Trail and aerial views of area communities. There is also footage of the 1964 ratification of the Columbia River Treaty at the International Peace Arch, with US President Johnson, Canadian Prime Minister Pearson and BC Premier Bennett.

The item consists of a release print of an industrial film, made between 1963 and 1967. It shows the planning, construction and official opening of the W.A.C. Bennett Dam at Portage Mountain on the Peace River. Includes discussion of the geology of the region.

Columbia 64-65 : out-takes

The item consists of 14 reels of colour film out-takes, made around 1964-1965. The footage includes an extensive selection of unused footage documenting aspects of construction at the Arrow, Duncan and Mica dam sites, as well as other operations and events relating to the Columbia River project; plus scenes of the Revelstoke ski tournament and parade, Mica housing development, "test lab North Vancouver," etc. There are outs from "Action on the Columbia", "Columbia '65" and other Parry-produced films on the project.

Prophecy of the Peace : [short version]

The item is a release print of an industrial film, made in 1964-1965. It show the continuing construction of Portage Mountain dam on the Peace River. Includes: re-enactments of the region's history (Indigenous people, Alexander Mackenzie's journeys, fur trade & homesteading); local farming; dam construction; the 5-mile conveyor built to carry earth fill to build the dam; activities in and around Prince George; the Endako Mine; etc.

The item is a film print from a National Film Board newsreel from 1962 on the Portage Mountain Dam. It includes a map of the Mackenzie/Peace River system, illustration of dam, aerial and ground level views of dam construction and general views of the surrounding area.

Natural gas is on the way

The item is release print of an industrial film made by Canadian Bechtel Ltd. between 1955 and 1957. It shows the
construction of Westcoast Transmission's natural gas pipeline from the Peace River gas fields to Huntington in the Lower Mainland. It includes views of the Peace River region, Fraser Valley, Fraser River and Thompson River, construction of pipeline river crossing in Coquihalla Canyon, land clearing, shipload of pipe arriving at Vancouver Harbour, views from PGE train carrying pipe north and procedure of welding and ditching pipe.

Cascade highway : footage

The item consists of a reel of unedited footage. This reel appears to include footage from both the two reels of original reversal film. Shows construction work on the Cascade Section of the Southern Trans-Provincial Highway, between Christina Lake and Rossland. Also includes footage of a couple in a convertible driving to Rossland on a narrow, unpaved and dusty road.

The item consists of three reels of unedited film footage and other film elements. Contains detailed coverage of the construction of the Second Narrows Bridge spanning Burrard Inlet between North Vancouver and Vancouver. Premier W.A.C. Bennett, Highways Minister Phil Gaglardi, Vancouver Mayor Tom Alsbury, and other dignitaries are seen at the opening ceremonies.

Fisheries research station activities, Nelson, BC

The item consists of two reels of documentary film. It shows fisheries research and other activities in the area of the Fisheries Research Station at Nelson. Reel one shows Duncan Dam construction, the construction of a fish fence on the Lardeau River, and the moving of a boat house from Nelson to Balfour. Reel two depicts fisheries studies on the Lardeau River and Meadow Creek, the Meadow Creek Kokanee spawning channel, and the official opening of B.C. Hydro's Duncan Dam, August 17, 1967.

[Planting, Kamloops district ; Mica pondage clearing]

Stock shots. First section shows crew planting bullet seedlings with planting guns and with dibbles, as well as some bare-root planting. The second section shows the clearing of land in the area to be flooded by the Mica Dam, using caterpillar tractors, Euclids, chain saws, etc. Tree are felled, piled, and the slash and debris are burned. Also includes views of the dam under construction, and of waterways and lakes in the area.
