Administrative history
The Association was constituted under Royal Charter in 1921 as the result of a resolution put forward at the first Empire Forestry Conference in London in 1920 by the Australian delegate, Mr. Lane-Poole. It provided a member of conference Standing Committees and was represented at each successive Conference by a delegate. The objectives of the Association as set out in the Royal Charter are: a) To foster public interest in forestry b) To secure the general recognition of the dependence of timber supply upon forest management c) To collect and circulate information relating to forestry and the commercial utilisation of forest products d) To form a centre for all engaged in forestry e) To provide a means of communication between all concerned. By 1952 members could be found in all corners of the British Commonwealth with over 260 members in Canada.
