Biographical history

Green Timbers (variously referred to as the Ranger School, Training School, or Forestry School) first opened in April 1945 at the Green Timbers Forestry Station in Surrey, B.C. (the former Relief and Alternative Service Worker's camp). The school was formally opened on Jan. 7, 1946. Twenty students, selected from the Ranger and Assistant Ranger staffs of all five forest districts of the province, were in attendance. Included in the group were two Rangers, ten Acting Rangers and eight Assistant Rangers. By 1979, the school was determined to be obsolete, because the technical schools of the day had picked up the necessary courses. The school was privatized in the early 1980's.
