Biographical history

The British Columbia government established a Registry of the Supreme Court at Courtenay (in the Nanaimo Judicial District), effective April 1, 1952. It was approved by Order-in-Council OIC 0889-1952, dated April 18, 1952. [See OIC and BC Gazette 1952, p. 1250]

By the same order, a Registry of the County Court was established in Courtenay (in the County of Nanaimo). Also by the same order, the Supreme Court Registry and the County Court Registry at Cumberland were closed.

To this date (March 2016) the Courtenay Registry of the Supreme Court continues as an active registry.
