Kitimat : a new generation

The item is an industrial film. It shows the Kenney Dam, the construction and operation of the Kemano tunnel and powerhouse, the process of making aluminum at the Alcan smelter in Kitimat, and the maintenance of power transmission lines. Also includes footage of logging; scenery and wildlife in the region; life in Kitimat, especially sports and recreational activities; and a trip by boat from Kemano to Kitimat.

Twilight on the McGregor

The item consists of two reels of documentary film; an A-roll and a B-roll. "Produced by the B.C. Wildlife Federation, this film makes a strong statement about the negative aspects of dam construction on B.C. rivers. The Fraser is still dam free. Should it remain so or do we need the hydro electric power that high dams could generate? The film deals specifically with the proposed McGregor Diversion although the fact does not necessarily date the message of the presentation."

Power among men

The item is two reels of documentary film. It is a United Nations film examining "the problem of human survival" and emphasizing humanity's role as builder, rather than destroyer. Includes sequences filmed in Italy, Haiti, Norway, and Canada. The latter sequence (which occurs near the beginning of reel 2) shows the construction of the Kenney Dam, the tunnel and Kemano hydro-electric plant, and the planning and construction of Kitimat townsite. Show the arrival of workers and their families, the shack town used while the town was built, schools and stores, Haisla village, a contentious soccer match, etc.
