History

G.T. Emmons was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He entered the U.S. Navy and became a midshipman. His travels took him to Alaska where he became knowlegeable about local aboriginal customs and artifacts. He assisted with the Alaska display at the 1893 Columbian Exposition, conducted research and published numerous articles on northwest coast anthropology. He died in Victoria.
