Biographical history

Flora Alfreda Hamilton Burns was the granddaughter of Canadian Senator William John Macdonald and the daughter of Gavin Hamilton Burns and Flora Alexandrina (Macdonald) Burns. She was born in London, England on July 4, 1891.

She was a close friend of artists Emily Carr and Sophie Pemberton.

She died in Victoria on May 15, 1983.

The fonds consists of research notes and essays on Emily Carr, personal correspondence (including letters from Emily Carr and Sophie Pemberton), family memorabilia and photographs. Fonds also includes books given to Flora Burns by Alice and Emily Carr.
