Administrative history

Fraser Lake was a North West Company fort established by Simon Fraser in 1806. Following the merge of Hudson's Bay Company and North West Company in 1821, the HBC took over operations of the post. The post was located approximately 65 kilometers south east of Stuarts Lake on Fraser Lake. In 1825, the post was rebuilt on the opposite side of Fraser Lake.

Fraser Lake post was temporarily closed between 1885 and 1887 because of poor fur returns in the region. The post was reopened in November 1887 and a new store and a school house were built. Fraser Lake post permanently closed in 1914.
