W.A.C. Bennett election tour, 1963

The item consists of two reels (one main reel and one duplicate reel) of unedited negative footage of Premier W.A.C. Bennett on an election tour of B.C. during the provincial election campaign, September 1963. Bennett is shown making speeches, riding PGE trains, shaking hands and generally "campaigning" in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Vancouver, Quesnel, Williams Lake, Dawson Creek, Peace River dam site, Fort St. John, Prince George and Nanaimo. Highlights include Bennett setting off a large explosion at the dam site and touring the mills and roads.

The road to the Yukon : [part 1]

SUMMARY: "The Road To The Yukon" features interviews by CBC reporter Bill Herbert with people who lived along the Alaska Highway, from Dawson Creek, B.C. to Dawson City, Yukon. Part 1 of 9 presents a description of Mile 0 at Dawson Creek, then proceeds to Fort St. John, where Herbert interviews Dan Murray, publisher of the Alaska Highway News, and broadcaster Georgina Keddell about early Fort St. John. This episode ends with comments about Mile 144 and Mile 200 before introducing the topic of the next "installment", Fort Nelson.

SUMMARY: Dick Batey reports on the progress of construction on the Pacific Great Eastern Railway's northern extension from Prince George. Includes an interview with P.G.E. construction engineer J.C. Anderson; John Dennison of Northern Freightways; Dawson Creek commissioner Gordon Kitson; Prince George mayor J.R. Road of the caribou

The item is a release print of a promotional film from 1964. It depicts the history of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, and a look at the area through which it passes. Shows inaugural run from North Vancouver to Fort St. John, Oct. 1958, (with Premier W.A.C. Bennett aboard) and driving of the Golden Spike at Fort St. John, Oct. 5 1958. Also includes footage of the Williams Lake Stampede, Peace River grain fields, oil/gas drilling and refining; also the operations of the PGE (North Vancouver rail yards, winter operations).

The item is a reel of film footage showing "Marie Smith installing package bees" which includes shots of workers in field with hives, honey factory and the federal experimental farm near Victoria, 1961. It also includes "Seed Fair at Fort St. John" which shows a bee display by the Dept. of Agriculture Extension Service and plaques being awarded, 1962.

The program was first broadcast on the CBC's BC network on 1963-07-12. This (slightly different) version was broadcast in 1967 to mark Mrs. Murray's 80th birthday.

Journal

Microfilmed copy of journal kept at Fort St. John and Hudson's Hope containing records of trading supplies, company servants, outside traders and casual employees. Data includes quantities and qualities of furs traded together with the values of both the furs and the trade goods. Lists of supplies from Lesser Slave Lake plus costs and logistics of transporting them to the Peace River and the furs out are shown. Later, probably ca. 1927, blank and little used pages have been used for recipes.

The item is a composite print of a travelogue from 1977. It shows the Peace River region in British Columbia, including footage of Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Hudson's Hope, Prince George, W.A.C. Bennett Dam, government campsites, local celebrations, heritage sites, farming, recreation, etc.
