Archivist’s Note: The date of the establishment of the County Court at Fort Steele has not been confirmed by BC Archives staff (as of March 2016). It is known that in 1897 the Mining Recorder at Fort Steele was appointed Registrar of the County Court of Kootenay held at Fort Steele. He was also appointed Deputy Clerk of the Peace.
