Amateur film. Miscellaneous footage taken during the time that Miss Gerry worked as a nurse for the federal Dept. of Indian and Northern Affairs. Includes footage of Indian reserves and villages, celebrations and school children; a First Communion procession at St. Paul's Indian Catholic Church in North Vancouver; hospital and clinic scenes; residential schools and Coqualeetza Indian School and Hospital; Cariboo highway and scenery; Williams Lake Stampede; etc. Also includes OUR CARIBOO NEIGHBORS, a discrete two-reel film that depicts a 1941 automobile journey to visit Indian reserves and missions in the Cariboo. The file consists of two reports by William Plenderleith from 1937. The first is titled "An Experiment in the Reorganization and the Administration of a Rural Inspectoral Unit in British Columbia." The second is a typescript copy titled "Report on Education in New Brunswick", with appendices dealing with the Matsqui - Sumas - Abbotsford Administrative Area and the Peace River Plan.

Allan Toop interview : [parts one and two]

RECORDED: [location unknown], 1979-02 & 03 SUMMARY: Allan Toop discusses his life as a dairy farmer in the Fraser Valley. The interview begins on the first tape after five minutes of sound effects, including the sounds of mechanized milking equipment. Excerpts from this interview were used in Marcuse's radio documentary "Vanishing Famers", broadcast on CBC Radio's "Three's Company".

Dinner for Miss Creeden

The item is an Industrial film on colour print made in 1947. It is a film about the growth of B.C. Electric from 1906 to 1946, built around the story of stenographer Flossie Creeden, the first female office employee of the company. Footage includes: Goldstream power plant, Vancouver natural gas facilities, BC Electric Railway lines in Fraser Valley, Stave Falls generator plant, Alouette Lake and Ruskin plants, 1939 royal visit, BCE employee's newsletter, A.E. Grauer family at home, office scenes, plans & construction at Bridge River project, BCE employee's service in World Wars I & II and BCE streetcar and trolley bus services.

Behind the switch

The item is a composite print of an educational film made in 1958. It shows how hydroelectric power is harnessed and distributed to homes and industry. Shows dam and powerhouse sites, the maintenance of power lines, and the various users of electricity. It is a companion film to NATURE'S MIRACLE.

[Lower mainland, Coast Mountains & Vancouver : aerial views]

Footage. Two rolls of aerial views, presumably culled from various outs for use as stock footage. The first roll, compiled from stock dated 1957 and 1960, shows Second Narrows, False Creek, Stanley Park, Fraser Valley and the Coast mountains, with some overall shots of Vancouver. The second roll, on stock dated 1954 and 1955, consists of low-level aerial views of downtown Vancouver, Burrard Inlet and a logging camp (?); "tilt-ups" from the CPR docks to the North Shore mountains; and some high-level aerial views of the city, one of which is on 1947 stock.

Our home town

The item is a composite print of a travelogue. It shows Mission City, the location of the 1958 Western Canadian Soap Box Derby Trials. Includes scenes of Mission City, the mission, Fraser River and the surrounding area, as well as preparations for and running of the derby trials.
