This series consists of records created or used by the Provincial Police office in the Vancouver-Westminster Police District, also referred to as the Vancouver District of Division E. Records date from 1899-1951. They include investigations; offence books; crime reports; office log, ledger and daily office diaries; descriptions of wanted persons; bulletins; records of prisoners handled by patrol wagon; Constable registration book providing reasons for their visit to Vancouver; reports received at the Provincial Police office with notes of instructions; Orders filed chronologically by order number from the Police commissioner in Victoria; and CIB special circulars : judicial decisions and department rulings, mostly "war circulars" related to World War II impacts on Canadians.

Some records, particularly orders and circulars, may be copies provided to the Vancouver office for reference or to provide direction on changes to laws and procedures.

Promotional film. Extant footage primarily shows handicapped children swimming, playing, doing arts and crafts activities, etc., at Easter Seal camp and various schools (Jericho, Oakridge, etc.). Also shots of Easter Seal buses of the BC Society for Crippled Children; use of Easter Seals; Easter Seal House; the Lower Fraser Valley Cerebral Palsy Association Children's Treatment Centre.

Are we at the crossroads? : reminiscences of Gerald Ross Hunter

The file consists of a typescript copy of the reminiscences of Gerald Ross Hunter titled "Are we at the crossroads?" Mr. Hunter was born in England, emigrated to Wynyard, Saskatchewan, moved to British Columbia in 1937 where he and his wife operated a motel on Kingsway in Vancouver, and then lived in the Fraser Valley and in Victoria.

Plan of Lac la Hache cemetery and associated material

The file consists of a copy of a plan of Lac la Hache cemetery and list of persons buried there, compiled by Mrs. Percy Ogden, Lac la Hache, five letters to Joanne Hughes from Molly Forbes, Lac la Hache re cemetery, and a 2 p. autobiography by Mrs. Forbes titled "Fraser Valley cemeteries and how they reflect the social history of the area." It also contains field notes on the Fraser Valley cemeteries [history essay, Douglas College, 1972, Joanne Hughes].

Footage. Mainly shows commercial and tourist activities in the middle and upper Fraser Valley. Shots include: a small freighter on the Fraser River; Brackman-Ker Milling Company (New Westminster); aerial view of an urban area; Johnston Bros. & Byrnell Freight Lines (Chilliwack); "Valley Celery" packing plant; Harrison Lake tourists and resorts; lake barges; a residential street; dairy cattle; berry picking and packing (Hatzic, B.C.); a railway platform; and the Bungalow Garage and Cafe in Matsqui.

[Cariboo region, Vancouver, Fraser Valley]

Footage. A film showing tourism and commerce in three areas: the Cariboo region around 100 Mile House, Vancouver, and the upper Fraser Valley. Cariboo region subjects include fishing, motoring, horseback riding, boating, hiking, pioneer buildings, a covered wagon, and ranching. In Vancouver the focus is shipping. Upper Fraser Valley subjects include Chilliwack businesses and residences, agriculture, outdoor recreation, Hope area campgrounds, Fort Hope Lodge, hiking, boating, and horseback riding. Visitors cross the Fraser River in a canoe to see a waterfall.

Peas -- Fraser Valley, B.C.

The item is a reel of documentary film from the 1920s. "The film examines pea production, from rolling, cultivating, disking and fertilizing the field to crop dusting with a biplane, seeding and harvesting. Much of the field work is done with horses, some with a tractor. Peas are dumped onto a conveyor belt at a barn, mechanically shucked, poured into wooden boxes and sorted by girls in white caps. Cows in a field and being milked in a barn, probably at Frasea Farms. Men (Agriculture inspectors?) drink milk from bottles beside a car. A sign on the roof of the car reads Frasea Farms." The item consists of a reel of 16 mm film which includes the following:
Mushroom growing in the Fraser Valley. Mushroom house, harvesting by hand and packing for the fresh market; quick freezing process, canning, transporting fresh mushrooms to market via Air Canada; cooking at home.

Jersey, lower Fraser Valley

The item is a reel of 16 mm film footage. In it a large group of agriculturalists visit the Frasea Dairy Farm to inspect the cattle, grounds, barns, etc., and to have lunch.

This series contains two operational files from the Vancouver Forest District. The first file, coded MTS X4, is a Timber Management file from 1912-1917. The contents refer to Timber Sale X4 to Young and Scott of Point Grey, B.C. covering lands within the municipality of Point Grey, bounded, in part, by Sixteenth Avenue and the Musqueam Indian Reserve. The second file, which is uncoded, concerns the transfer of records to Victoria from the Supervisor of Scaler's office.

Records consist largely of receipts for the sale of town lots, suburban and country lands, and unsurveyed rural lands, issued by Assistant Commissioners of Lands and Works for Cariboo District, Lillooet District, Yale District, and New Westminster District. The series also includes land sale records pertaining to Lytton, Seymour, Douglas, Port Moody, Fort Langley, and Similkameen district, and a trading licences receipt book issued by Frank Trevor, Collector at Quesnel.
